#65 Read 10 Books by Authors I Have Never Read Before (4&5/10)

I read Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin on a recommendation from my sister-in-law last month and I'm so glad I did. I can't say this book had a lot of substance, but it was definitely entertaining! The lead characters are pretty unsympathetic in a lot of ways and I did not come to love them, which is why I am surprised that I liked it. Normally, for me to really like a book, I have to kind of love the lead characters. This was just a really fun story in which I had to know how it ended. I read the sequel Something Blue immediately and really liked it, too, also despite REALLY not liking the lead character for ninety percent of the book. Give these books a read.

After I asked for and received Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty for Christmas, I was so geeked to read it immediately because my online book club ladies talk about one of the main characters all the time and I had to know the hype. I knew that these books really fell into the young adult category, which I have been more open to since Twilight, but that in the five book series, the last three were more adult. That premise in itself appealed to me. I am already on book three so my mind is kind of with that one right now but I can say that I enjoyed Sloppy Firsts a lot. The lead character, Jessica Darling, is in high school, is so much fun and very likely a girl I would have wanted to befriend in high school. She has a biting wit, really does not like high school, is smart and has an affinity for swearing. I would have really liked her. So I am really enjoying following her journey and really happy that the author decided to make this a series. The other main character that I bought the book in search of, really doesn't make much of an impression in this book, he actually gets an increasingly larger part as the books go on. So I was expecting this person to really stand out in the first book and when he didn't it was a bit of a disappointment to me but, on the other hand, it is giving me something to look forward to. Yet another recommendation from me! Is your "to be read list" growing?? I hope so!
