Bible Verse for July: Leviticus 19:28
"Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the LORD."
Do you take this literally when you read it? Something that I think really needs to be kept in mind when we read the bible is context. When the bible was written, people were tattooing and piercing their bodies for their religion and God did not want to see imitation of these practices. In my opinion, that is all there was to what He said in Leviticus. I think tattoos can be beautiful works of art and I love how they have become more and more acceptable. There are so many awesome tattoos that are tributes to God, life, loved ones, etc.. I think that God only takes exception when the tattoos are blasphemous or in adoration of sin. I guess it only makes sense that this is my argument - I have two piercings (and one that closed up) as well as one tattoo and Corey has two piercings and three tattoos! Thoughts? I love to hear opinions on this topic.
Let me just point out that this post is my procrastination at its finest - this is something I am supposed to do each month and I am posting it with one hour and fifty-seven minutes to spare!
